Description
Fair Trade ornaments – These fair trade Christmas ornaments candy stick and gingerbread women are made by the Lao Song artisans.
The Lao Song people were moved to central Thailand from Laos almost 200 years ago to help build a royal palace at Petchaburi. The traditional dress of both men and women is black. The women’s skirts have white or blue vertical pin stripes. Their blouses are black cotton with silver buttons. Some still wear their hair in a distinctive swirled hair style. The Lao Song people use colorful patchwork designs as well as embroidery on the underside of ceremonial robes and on pillow decorations. After a series of rice crop failures, they were encouraged to use their unique designs for Christmas ornaments, other decorations and gift items.
Buying this product provides fair wages to these families and their communities with employment.
